Have your AI build you a custom calendar

Tell your AI assistant what you like, where you can get to and when you're free. It builds a calendar of matching Sacramento-region events that you subscribe to once in Google, Apple or Outlook. New events that match show up on their own.

For example: live music Friday nights in Midtown, wine tastings in Lodi and Amador, free events in Davis.

One tap: Wine country calendar

No assistant needed. This is a ready-made calendar of winery and wine events around Sacramento: Lodi, Amador, El Dorado, Clarksburg, Winters and more. Subscribe once and new events appear on their own.

It opens on the site with Google Calendar, Apple/Outlook and .ics buttons. Want a smaller one, like only Lodi or only free events? Have your assistant build it, below.

How to do it

  1. Connect Sacramento Events to your assistant (one time). It needs an app that can add an MCP connector, such as Claude or ChatGPT.
    https://sacramento.whatsupin.ai/mcp
In Claude: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, name it “Sacramento Events”, paste the link, leave the sign-in fields empty. Other apps: setup guide.
  2. Copy the prompt below into a new chat and send it. Fill in the “What I want” line, or leave it and take the short quiz.
  3. Check the sample it shows you and ask for changes (“fewer networking events”, “add Davis”).
  4. Subscribe. Your assistant gives you a Google Calendar link, an Apple/Outlook link, and a link that opens the calendar on Sacramento Events.

The prompt

Use the Sacramento Events tools to build me a custom Sacramento-region events calendar that I can subscribe to and that keeps itself up to date.

What I want: [describe it here, e.g. live music Friday nights in Midtown, wine tastings in Lodi and Amador, free events in Davis; or leave this as is and get a quick quiz]

If I've described what I want, build from that, and only ask about something important that's missing (like area or which days). If I haven't, offer me two ways to start: describe it in a sentence (for example "live music Friday nights in Midtown, wine tastings in Lodi and Amador, free events in Davis"), or a quick quiz. For the quiz, ask a few questions at a time and skip anything I've already answered:
1. What do I like doing? (hobbies, kinds of events, scenes, e.g. "salsa", "AI meetups", "trail runs", "comedy")
2. Where can I realistically get to? (Sacramento only, a neighborhood or city, parts of the region)
3. When am I free? (weekday evenings, weekends, mornings, late nights)
4. Free events only, or is paid fine?
5. A few picks a week, or everything that matches?
6. Anything to leave out?
7. Include events for kids or teens?

Then:
- Try a few search_events calls to see what my interests actually match, and tell me what you find.
- Call create_custom_calendar with a short name and one interest per distinct thing I like (each with its own area/days/times/free settings). Use exclude terms to cut noise.
- Show me the sample it returns and the weekly count. If it's too busy or misses things, adjust and call it again.
- When I'm happy, give me the Google Calendar and Apple/Outlook subscribe links, and tell me it refreshes on its own and that I can come back to change it.

Apps that support MCP prompts (such as Claude Desktop) also list this as “Have your AI create a custom calendar for you”.

Privacy

Your answers stay in your chat. Sacramento Events only receives the filters your assistant builds, and doesn't store them: they live in the calendar link itself. Anyone you share the link with can see its interests. Privacy policy.
